Lelo is a brand know for it’s beautiful luxurious toys. A Lelo sex toy always looks beautiful actually. The toy by itself, but also the packaging. You pay for that as well. Some Lelo toys are absolutely awesome and other Lelo toys are, in my opinion, overpriced. It really depends when it comes to my opinion.
Miss Publicity, a PR agency working together with Lelo, sent me the newest Lelo toy: the Lelo Sona. Immediately I could see that this is a completely different kind of toy from that Lelo normally makes. The Sona works with sonic waves.
Sonic waves vs air pressure
At first, I thought that the Lelo Sona was kind of the same sex toy as the Womanizer and would work on air pressure. However, it does not. Sonic waves are a new thing. Lelo compares sonic waves with vibrations, to explain the difference, but not with air pressure. That you cannot compare a toy like this with a toy which simply vibrates, seems like common sense to me. However, it is nice to see this explained in one of those promotional clips. But where it gets really interesting, is when they start comparing it to toys which work on air pressure. However, this comparison cannot be found (yet) anywhere.
What Lelo says about this new technology is that a normal vibrator only really stimulated the outside part of the clitoris. However, the clitoris is so much more than that little spot that you can see. The clitoris has a bigger area on the inside of your body. The sonic waves of Lelo Sona will reach all the way inside your body and by doing so, it does not only stimulate the part of your clitoris which is sticking out, but also the part you cannot see. This should result in an orgasm coming deep from inside your body.
Nice packaging, but not such a nice toy
The Lelo Sona comes in a beautiful black box. Like always, it looks great at Lelo and it gives you a luxurious feeling. Personally, I think the Sona does not look that nice. Pretty ugly actually. We all have different tastes, but this is not my kind of thing. It reminds me of an (ugly) duck. The backside of the sex toy is made out of gold-colored plastic which has the brand name imprinted. That is something which actually look nice in my opinion, but when I look at it from the front, it does not really excite me. The light pink color doesn’t help either. You can also get it in black, which looks better in my opinion, and you can also get it in a darker color pink, which also looks better.
The Sona is made from silicon. As always with Lelo, this is a very refined kind of silicon which repels dust. The Lelo Sona is rechargeable and the box also contains a USB charging cable. You will also get a little packet of lubricant and a storage bag included with your purchase.
Something I’ve noticed is that the little packet of lubricant has a (small) user manual, just in case you forgot how to use lubricant, but that the user manual of the Sona is super short and that you have to look online for the rest. I haven’t done this because that’s just the way I am. If I want to use a sex toy, I don’t feel like downloading the user manual somewhere. Forget about it then, I will figure out myself which button is for what. I don’t think this is a good thing when it comes to customer service. Lelo toys do not come cheap most of the time, so you could expect they would take the effort of adding a user manual.
Control
You can control the Sona with three buttons. There is a + button for harder, a – button for softer and a button to scroll through the patterns. So, when it comes to controls, it’s fine. However, I did not like the fact that when it’s on its softest setting and you press the “-“ button again, it turns off. This toy is pretty intense, so quite often, I wanted to turn it down a notch, and when you’re busy, you’re not sure if it’s already at its lowest setting or not and I accidentally turned it off. Pretty annoying.
When it comes to toys working on air pressure, you first have to let the end bit suck a vacuum over your clit, but with this toy, that’s not the case. You can also hover this toy above your clitoris and even then, it will still get stimulated.
The first time
When I started to use this sex toy for the first time, I was especially wondering if it would be different from a Womanizer or a Satisfyer. The first thing I noticed was the sound. The Womanizer gets more silent when you hold it against your clitoris, but the Sona get louder. The sound could quite easily be heard, especially when using the patterns, but it did not bother me too much.
What I noticed most is how intense this toy was. The lowest setting is really intense already. Normally I use the higher settings when using toys, but in this case, I only used the lower settings. The higher settings were too much for me. The feeling can definitely be compared to toys working on air pressure, but this really goes a lot deeper, as vibrations can be deep as well. It’s pretty difficult to explain, especially to someone who has not used a similar toy yet. Your clit gets stimulated (and how!) while it’s not being touched. You feel the stimulation but without the feeling of something touching it. That’s pretty weird, especially in the beginning. But also, super intense. I think you can only imagine the feeling once you’ve tried it.
Great patterns
I was really impressed by the patterns. My loyal readers know that I can think good and bad about vibration patterns. First, I always thought I didn’t really like them, but lately I can really appreciate certain patterns to warm me up. However, I cannot orgasm with a vibration pattern. I just can’t. There can always be an exception but I am all about the steady vibration. So, I really didn’t expect that the patterns of Sona would make any difference. Boy, I was wrong. Really. Those patterns are the bomb! Really, it’s genius! This is complete stimulation to the max. I had the idea that my clitoris was doing a happy dance. Joy to the world and thanks Lelo! What a heavenly experience. I love these patterns. I also really love my Womanizer, so I really want the Womanizer to get patterns, however, this review is about the Sona obviously.
The orgasms I got from the Sona with the patterns were incredible. I like almost every pattern. No, actually I love them. Great. Brilliant. If this sex toy only had patterns, it would be fine for me. Yep, I’m really excited about this.
Super heavy
The Lelo Sona was super intense, which is something I felt immediately. But to my surprise, the second time I wanted to use it, it was just too intense for me. The night before I had used my Womanizer (yup, there it is again). And I’ve noticed before that my clitoris was even more sensitive the next day after a round with the Womanizer, but that it would be this sensitive, is something I was not expecting. I could not use the Sona at this point, it was even painful to use.
During later attempts I also felt that the Sona was really intense, however, as long as I did not use the Womanizer beforehand, my clitoris could take it, even though the higher settings would be too intense. At that point, I also discovered that the tip of the toy doesn’t always have to be in direct contact with your clit. You could also hover it above it. This would also make the stimulation less intense.
I really like the stimulation of the sonic waves. Really super intense, very deep and really focused. I can really enjoy something like that. The patterns really became my bff. If the lower settings of the Sona could be a little lower, it would have been perfect. Now, I cannot orgasm multiple times, because it’s just too intense. However, I’m enjoying it so much, that this doesn’t have to be a bad thing.
Sona Cruise
There is also a different version of this sextoy, the Sona Cruise. With the normal Sona, when the end part is completely closed off, the intensity of the stimulation gets a little less. With the Sona Cruise, this is not the case if I understood this correctly. I don’t really get it, but it was something like that. I did not have the chance to test the Sona Cruise. I haven’t had it in my hands yet and this complete technique is new to me, so I’m not quite certain. The Sona Cruise is also quite a bit more expensive. I find it hard to tell if this is worth the money or not, so I will let people decide for themselves.

The Sona is now for sale for an introductory price. I personally think that’s really cool. Later, the Sona will cost 148,90, but you can buy it now for 69,90, which is a really good price in my opinion.
If you enjoy intense stimulation, I can definitely recommend the Lelo Sona. If you have a super sensitive clitoris, I think that this toy might not be as suitable for you.
